Smoky eyes have been a big style for quite awhile and there's no sign this particular trend is dying. Here we show you step-by-step instructions on how to get the perfect smoky eye.

The key to the perfect smoky eye is proper blending. You want to make sure colors are blended together flawlessly. Also, it's important to pair light base colors with rich dark colors. Nice mixes include: Soft gold base with deep purple on top, champagne base with bright blue and peach base with green hue.

Here's How:

  1. Prep the lid. The key to keeping eyeshadow from melting into your eyelid crease as the day goes on is to kept eyelids oil-free. To do this start with an eyeshadow base (also called "primer"). I prefer to dab at bit of MAC's 'paint' on lids before shadow application. Or try Fresh Freshface Perfecting Eye Primer.

  2. Apply eyeliner. If you're going for a typical black, brown or gray smoky eye, apply liner in one of those colors above the upper lash line, drawing line thicker in the middle of eye. If your opting for a jewel-toned eye (violet makes a gorgeous smoky eye), line eyes with a purple, blue or deep green liner.

  3. Blend in color on bottom lashes For color on the bottom (a key smoky eye look) you'll want a lighter eyeliner. The key is to "smudge it." You can also apply a bit of shadow to get full smudge effect.

  4. Apply light base color Again, the key to a smoky eye is pairing a lighter base with the darker hue. I prefer a nice cream shade for my base. Sweep a light, shimmery shadow over the lids to your browbone. I love Stila's whipped eye shadows $20. The moist "mousse" consistency seems to stay on forever. My favorite colors are taupe and pearl.

  5. Blend in darker color, but keep dark color below the crease. Now that you have the base and eyeliner on, it's time to get the smoky effect. You need a darker eyeshadow shade. Using an eyeshadow brush blend in color starting at your lash line, blending up. Make sure to blend color into the lash line so the eye liner disappears. Stop deep color at crease.

  6. Doublecheck your work Make sure eyes match and blend color with a Q-tip if need be.

  7. Finish with several coats of volumizing mascara. Tried and true mascaras (featured in "Elle" magazine's March 2006 issue) include DiorShow Mascara & L'Oreal Paris Volume Shocking Mascara. Elle's writer says they are the best volumizers she's tried.

Eyebrow Waxing
By Joanne Elliott

Unless you have very sensitive skin, waxing is a quick and relatively easy alternative to plucking your eyebrows. Although it is generally best to get eyebrows waxed professionally it can be expensive - up to around $15 as a general rule, although salons do differ. If you have a tighter budget, or if you are feeling fairly brave, here are some simple steps for you to try at home...

1) Preparing the Eyebrow

Brush the eyebrow into place with a baby toothbrush or clean mascara wand, so that their natural shape is neatly defined. Next, apply an astringent such as witch hazel to anesthetize the sensitive skin under the brow. Work out your natural brow shape by standing several feet away from a mirror, and following these simple steps

Working out the length of the eyebrow

Hold a ruler parallel to your nose, and level with the inner corner of the eye, to work out where the brow should begin. If your eyes are close together, make the gap between the brows wider. If your eyes are far apart, dont wax the start line of the brow too much so that they are closer together. Mark the correct point with a dot.

Working out the curve of the eyebrow

You can work out where the highest point of the curve/ arch should be by holding a ruler from the edge of the nostril past the outer edge of the iris (the colored part of the eye) and up to the eyebrow. Mark the spot with a dot.

Final planning

Now link up the dots in a gentle arch to draw on the ideal shape of the eyebrow that you want to achieve. This will give you a guideline to go by when applying the wax. You should aim for a smooth arched brow that tapers slightly at the outer ends.

2) Applying the Wax

Buy a professional waxing kit - basically a jar or tub of wax which can be warmed up in boiling water and applied with a small applicator or spatula, and (usually muslin) removal strips. Each product varies slightly, so be sure to read the manufacturers directions carefully.

Warm up the wax to optimum temperature and use the small spatula to apply a thin layer of wax to the growth. Make sure that you only use a small amount of wax on the spatula to avoid the wax dripping when it is applied. Apply wax with the hair growth under the eyebrow, (i.e. in the same direction that the hair grows in). You dont need to use much, and you should not let the wax dry.

3) Removing the Hair

This is the painful bit! Ouch!!

Never wax above the eyebrow, only ever shape from below. Waxing from under the brow will widen your eyes and help to get the line even. This will make you look younger and much more glamorous if done correctly! As soon as it is applied remove the wax against the hair growth, (i.e. in the opposite direction that the hair grows in). This is done by gently smoothing a piece of cotton muslin over the waxed area, pulling the skin taut with one hand, and pulling the muslin off with the other.

It is a good idea to take a little hair off at a time, especially if you have fairly this growth. You will be surprised how much difference a little hair removal will make to your appearance.

4) The Aftermath

Any straggly hairs left over after waxing can be easily plucked out using a set of good tweezers. Apply a soothing balm like tea tree oil onto the area afterwards. You should avoid direct sunlight, acid based facial treatments, and liquid makeup for several hours.

To give the gorgeous new eyebrow shape emphasis, use an eyebrow pencil or tinted brow shadow to subtly fill in any gaps, and even out the natural color tone. Don't worry if you make mistakes, even if you have bald patches or empty spaces. Practice makes perfect, and anyway, the hair will have grown back before you know it!!

When you talk about Minneapolis, it's good form to recognize its twin city St. Paul, on the other side of the Missouri River. St. Paul is the capitol of Minnesota after all; and even though St. Paul has always been in the shadow of its neighbor across the river, the area has come to be known as the Twin Cities. With 3.2 million residents in the area, Minneapolis/St. Paul is the sixteenth largest metropolitan area in the country.

In a metro area of that size you are going to find quality medical services and certainly quality plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures if you know where to look. While we don't have a specific set of instructions for you, here are some suggestions on how to go about finding the plastic surgeon that will work for you.

1. The most famous name in medicine for Minnesota and perhaps for the country is the Mayo Clinic. Mayo has one of the finest medical schools in the country, opened in 1972. Located in Rochester, Mayo Clinic and its medical school are eighty miles from Minnesota, but many of its graduates gravitate to the Twin Cities area to open practices.

The medical school has a two year graduate program in plastic surgery, described on their web site: "Approved by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, this unique program offers one-on-one training in the outpatient setting, hospital and operating room." One of your options might be seeking out a Mayo trained cosmetic plastic surgeon.

2. The University of Minnesota's medical school has a plastic surgery program that covers the gamut of both reconstructive and cosmetic plastic surgery. The school is active in research and uses state of the art equipment to teach the fine points of breast augmentation, facial lifts and the other common procedures. One of the University's medical schools is in Minneapolis and many of its graduates practice there. Until 1972, Mayo's staff doctors taught at the school. The state's medical school also graduates its own plastic surgeons.

3. Minneapolis itself has a population of about 370,000, which makes it less than 15% of the metropolitan area. There are a number of affluent suburbs where you'll find well established plastic surgery outpatient clinics. Today, many people find that liposuction or such procedures as a tuck or facial lift work well as outpatient procedures. Many of the clinics have been in operation for twenty years or more. You won't find a lot of clinics offering the array of day spa treatments, which depending on your perspective may (or may not) be a refreshing fact.

Women's Mental Health - Types of Therapy
By Marlene C. Griffin

Hi Ladies,

Please don't feel offended or ashamed of the terms women's mental health, when being applied to you/us specifically. After age 40 so much is happening to us, so many changes and transitions. We don't understand what is going on in our bodies. This means the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual parts of our bodies.

A discussion of women's mental health will usually entail therapy of some sort. There is no way to avoid it. O.K.?

In this article, try to see the connections between women's mental health and her family. She is involved and a primary member. She may have her own personal mental health problems as well as those of her children and family. Women have a tremendous burden on their shoulders--and her mental health is strained and affected, to say the least.

What is therapy?

Women's mental health therapy is a way to help you understand yourself better and to cope better. Being in therapy does not mean you are crazy. Everyone has problems. Therapy is one way to help yourself with your problems.

Some of the problems that can be helped with therapy include:

  • depression
  • anxiety
  • drug or alcohol abuse
  • eating disorders
  • sleep problems
  • anger
  • grief

There are many different types of women's mental health therapies, which work well for other's also. One kind of therapy might work best for you, such as play therapy for small children, or family therapy for family conflicts. The kind of therapy that is best for you depends on what best meets your needs.

What types of women's mental health therapies are there?

The more common types of therapy are:

Art Therapy. Drawing, painting, or working with clay with an art therapist can help you express things that you may not be able to put into words. Art therapists work with children, teens, and adults, including people with disabilities.

Behavioral Therapy-works well for women's mental health issues. This type of therapy is very structured and goal oriented. It starts with what you are doing now, and then helps you change your behavior. Behavioral therapists may use techniques such as:

  • Exposure therapy or desensitization. First you learn ways to relax. Then you learn to face your fears while you practice these relaxation skills.
  • Aversive therapy. This pairs something unpleasant with a behavior to help you stop the behavior. For example, putting something that tastes bitter on a child's thumb to help stop thumb-sucking.
  • Role-playing. This may help you be more assertive or help resolve conflicts between family members.
  • Self-monitoring, or keeping a log of your daily activities. This may help identify which behaviors are causing you problems.

Biofeedback. This type of therapy can help you learn to control body functions such as muscle tension or brain wave patterns. Biofeedback can help with tension, anxiety, and physical symptoms such as headaches.

Cognitive Therapy. This type of therapy takes the approach that how you think affects how you feel and behave. This therapy helps you recognize unhealthy ways of thinking that keep you stuck. You learn to identify automatic negative thoughts such as:

  • "I never do anything right"
  • "The world is always against me"
  • "If I don't succeed all the time I am a failure."

You learn how to change your thoughts and this can lead to changed behaviors. It can also improve self-esteem and confidence. Cognitive-behavioral therapy combines behavior and cognitive therapy methods.

EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing). In EMDR the therapist helps you cope with feelings and thoughts about distressing past events. You move your eyes back and forth, usually following the therapist's hand or pen, while you recall the event. This type of therapy is considered by many to be experimental.

Women's mental health/Family or Couples Therapy. Family therapists view the family as a system. They work with the whole family rather than just one person. The goal is for family members to openly their express feelings and to find ways to change negative family patterns.

Women's mental health related to Couples therapy helps partners improve their ability to communicate with each other. It may help you decide what changes are needed in the relationship and in the behavior of each partner. Both partners then work to learn new behaviors. There are different forms of couples therapy.

Women's mental health/Group Therapy. In group therapy a small number of people (6 to 10) meet regularly with a therapist. There are many types of therapy groups. Some focus on a specific problem such as anger management. Process groups do not focus on a single topic, but instead explore issues raised by members. Short-term groups are problem-focused and meet for a limited time, such as 6 to 12 weeks. Long-term groups deal with ongoing issues such as self-esteem.

Massage Therapy. Massage therapy may help to reduce anxiety and stress.

Women's mental health and Pharmacological Therapy (Medicines). Medicines can help improve your mental well-being. They may be prescribed by a psychiatrist or your healthcare provider. Your provider will work with you to carefully select the right medicine for you. There are many kinds of psychiatric medicines.

  • Antipsychotics may help with psychosis or other conditions.
  • Mood stabilizers may be used to treat mood problems such as bipolar disorder.
  • Antidepressants may help with depression or anxiety.
  • Antianxiety medicines may be prescribed to treat anxiety disorders.

The right medicine may improve symptoms so that other kinds of treatment are more effective. Medicines may also be used alone.

Play Therapy. Play therapy allows children to act out their problems with toys and games. Play therapists help a child feel more confident and less fearful.

Psychoanalytic Therapy. This type of therapy was developed by Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, you work to uncover things from your past that affect your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. This kind of therapy can take years. It usually involves meeting several times a week. It can be quite costly.

Psychodynamic Therapy. This type of therapy helps you bring your true feelings to the surface. If you repress (purposely forget) or deny painful thoughts, feelings, and memories, they can still affect your life. Once you are aware of these repressed thoughts, feelings, and memories they become less painful.

Psychoeducational Therapy. This type of therapy involves the therapist teaching instead of the client talking. You may learn about disorders, treatment options, and how to cope with symptoms. Therapists may provide you with useful information or may help you learn different skills. They work with individuals and groups.

Relaxation Therapies. Learning ways to relax can help to reduce anxiety and stress. Yoga and meditation may also be helpful.

Your guide to empowerment and good health!

Finding the Best Surgeon
By Andrew Jacobs Platinum Quality Author

There certainly is no question that laser surgery of any kind comes with risks. When most potential patients consider the risks they tend to think of things like scarring or little success. Perhaps the greatest risk to your health though is the surgeon that performs the procedure. It should never be assumed that any person is qualified simply because they say they are. Finding the best surgeon is where your laser cosmetic procedure should really begin. There is no room to make mistakes when it comes to your health and potential dangers to your life. Shopping around shouldn't be limited to computers and cars. It's just as detrimental to personal and health related investments.

One of the best ways to learn about any product or service is to ask around to those who have made use of it. Word of mouth is the best form of advertising. We've all heard that but time has proven it to be true. If you know of someone who may have had some laser treatments done, ask them about it. A satisfied patient will be more than happy to tell you all about their surgeon. On the flipside of the same coin, it's a good way to learn which clinics you may not want to visit.

Go to your family doctor. Provided that you trust the opinion of your family doctor, they may have plenty of information for you regarding laser procedures and practitioners. Depending on your condition or what you are seeking laser treatment for, your own doctor is a safe bet for a reliable referral. In cities where there are several laser clinics to choose from this is a helpful way to weed through them all. Because most of them offer similar practices, it's easy to get confused. Of course living in a small town can become just as difficult when you don't know where to go to seek safe and experienced treatment. Family doctors play many roles; don't leave them out of any of your health related issues.

Stay on top of the scam stories. It might come as a shock but there are many people practicing forms of cosmetic surgery with little to no professional training. Conduct an internet search and the results will turn up many stories of patients led astray by a con artist only to lose their money and end up with a botched surgery. Make yourself aware of scams and what a typical scam may look like to prevent becoming a victim of malpractice.

It doesn't take much for someone to be able to say they are a cosmetic surgeon. Even gynaecologists can become one if they so choose. This is why the patient must always ask for proof of qualified experience. A laser surgeon with full credentials will have no issues making them available for patients. Any doctor who refuses should most likely be avoided. Allowing someone to change something on your body requires a vast amount of trust. Finding the best surgeon possible is crucial to your experience. Careful research before laser treatment could make a great difference after.

Before you undergo any cosmetic laser treatment, educate yourself with the facts. We provide important consumer information that will help you make the best possible decision. For more information on topics such as laser eye surgery, visit http://www.LaserTreatmentFacts.com today.

Story About Losing Weight
By Wan Mohd Hirwani Wan Hussain

Are you realistic about your weight-loss goal? Remember, losing as little as 10 to 20 pounds can improve your health if you're overweight or obese. Ask your doctor how much weight you can safely lose.

Here's a guide to understanding and dealing with childhood obesity. If you're overweight or obese, you are not alone - you're among nearly 130 million other U.S. adults. Obesity is the second leading cause of preventable death and is closely linked to conditions such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, arthritis, gout, asthma, and gum disease. WebMD has created a weight loss clinic to addresses this public health epidemic.

Vegetarian Food

Natural weight loss with a vegetarian diet or raw food diet is healthy weight loss. Natural appetite suppressants like hoodia weight loss or green tea weight loss are the best weight loss supplements. There are no weight loss vitamins, only natural appetite suppressant.

Eat Balanced Meal

To lose weight safely and effectively, a well balanced diet from the Food Guide Pyramid consuming enough high carbohydrate (low and moderate glycemic index) foods for energy and lowering fat consumption to reduce calories is recommended rather than following a very low calorie diet. It is also important not to eliminate all fat from the diet. The body needs some fats for normal operation. The best fats are monounsaturated (canola oil, olive oil, peanut oil, almonds, pecans, peanuts, walnuts, and avocados).

Diet and Exercise

Diet and exercise are vital strategies for losing and maintaining weight. A study by the National Weight Control Registry found that nearly all of 784 study participants who had lost at least 30 pounds, and had maintained that loss for one year or longer, used diet and exercise to not only lose the weight, but also to maintain the weight loss.

The Result
Once the desired weight has been reached, the gradual addition of about 200 calories of healthy, low-fat food to daily intake may be attempted for one week to see if weight loss continues. If weight loss does continue, additional calories of healthy foods may be added to the daily diet until the right balance of calories to maintain the desired weight has been determined. It may take some time and record keeping to determine how adjusting food intake and exercise levels affect weight.

WAN MOHD HIRWANI WAN HUSSAIN is a successful business consultant, and fitness advocate. He has done extensive research and testing of nutrition, diet and exercise programs. His interest was initiated by a personal health issue, and he was successful in losing over 50 pounds, lowering his stress and blood pressure, as well as increasing muscle mass all at age 57. This was after he failed at the so called expert programs. visit his blog for more info at http://weight-loss-woman.blogspot.com/

Electric Scooters - Types and Transportation
By Sam Knopler Platinum Quality Author

When you have difficulty walking, you might consider something that requires a lot of walking, like going to Disney World, to be completely out of reach. Even just moving around the house may seem difficult, but if you use an electric scooter, then you can go places that you did not think were possible anymore.

Electric scooters, also frequently called mobility scooters, are mobility vehicles designed to transport a single seated individual. They are similar to electric power wheelchairs, but electric scooters are controlled by an adjustable handlebar, called a tiller. These types of adult scooters greatly restore a person's mobility and the places that they can go.

The range of an electric scooter varies by model. Some are capable of traveling over 40 miles per charge at speeds of 12 miles per hour. Others have a much reduced range of around 10 miles per charge, but can be taken apart easily to make transportation much easier. No matter what the type is though, they all allow an individual to easily and painlessly get around.

Scooters that are made to be disassembled into easy to handle pieces are referred to as travel scooters. These types of scooters do not have a lot of features or a very large range, but when disassembled, it is possible to place a travel scooter in the trunk of a car or transport it on a plane with ease. The reason these types of scooters do not have as many features is because they are designed to be as lightweight as possible. In fact usually the heaviest piece of a travel scooter will be around 30 pounds.

The major advantage of a travel scooter is its ease of transport. Most people find that they can quickly and easily move their mobility scooter without assistance. If you purchase a non-travel scooter and intend to use it away from the home, you might have to invest in a scooter carrier for your car. There are a few different types of scooter carriers and they are either installed internally or externally.

An external scooter lift is usually very easy to install. They attach to a vehicles hitch and so usually just slide on. Some external scooter carriers are powered by the cars battery and so require minimal installation, some use a rechargeable battery, and some do not use any power at all. The Tilt-N-Go is one popular type of scooter carrier that does not require any power. It can be quickly installed to a Class II hitch or a Class III hitch, but in order to utilize all of its lifting capacity, you should use it with a Class III hitch.

Internal scooter lifts usually require a little bit more of an installation and either use a pulley to lift the scooter or a platform to raise the scooter in a manner similar to an elevator. These types are usually installed in the passenger compartments of vans or in the trunk area.

Many scooters that are not classified as travel scooters can still be easily taken apart for transport. Typically these types of scooters will be much heavier than a travel scooter, so you might not be able to easily move it without assistance.

Sam Knopler is has had experience with many types of Electric Scooters. If you are interested in learning about travel scooters, scooter lifts, or other types of mobility equipment visit electricscooters4less.com today.

Understanding the Colors of Fashion
By Charles Johnson

It seems like styles and colors go in and out of favor so often that it's almost impossible to keep up with what's in style at any given moment. Try as you might to keep up with what's going on in the fashion world, before you know it the trend has passed and you find yourself wearing something that's tragically out of fashion. Don't fret, it's not as hard as it seems when you learn a few basic secrets about the fashion world. One of the first things you should understand is the colors of current fashion trends and why certain seasons seem to be made for certain color groups.

If you have absolutely no other sense of style, you should at least understand that most fashion revolves around the different colors of the seasons and how those influence the way we dress ourselves. For example, light airy colors are generally more accepted in the spring months because they symbolize the awakening of everything from the cold grasp of winter. The days are getting longer, people are emerging from their homes to begin running and walking again and the sun is encouraging the budding flowers to leave their winter shells. These kinds of pastel colors are also closely associated with Easter, May Day, and other various spring time holiday events.

Going into the summer months you'll start to notice people wearing brighter colors. Most bathing suits are bright blue, red, yellow, and orange. They're meant to draw people's eyes and to celebrate the wonder and excitement that's part of summer. If you think about most of the decorations that are put out for summer or the clothing you see people around you wearing during these hot months, you'll find that some of the most vibrant colors and patterns are being used during this time. If you're shopping for a new summer wardrobe, try to choose some of these bright colors and stay away from dull browns and grays.

The fall is often a little bit trickier than the colors associated with spring and summer because most of the colors that you see in fashion in the fall center on some type of bronze look. There are many different shades of brown, burnt orange, navy blue, and some of the darker, dustier pink shades, off white, and maroon. These colors too, are a reflection of the season and the mood that grips us during this time. While the changing of the colors may not be as noticeable in climates where the temperature doesn't drastically sway from hot to downright cold, there's still some subtle changes that seem to make people more conscious of their fashion color palate.

Winter is probably the most noticeable of the seasonal color changing. Most often you'll find people wearing dark colors during this time, including black, navy, dark brown, and forest green. Sometimes you'll also find people wearing white, but not as often as the traditional black coat and navy suit. This is because the days have gotten shorter, there is no longer as much daylight left to bask in during a normal day and most people find themselves going to work and coming home in darkness. Therefore, their entire fashion world starts to mimic the outside world and how they are feeling.

Of course, these are just general rules - no one will laugh at you for wearing a black suit during the summer time. However, being aware of these guidelines and their implications will help you plan a perfect wardrobe for any time of the year.

Single Muslim Women - Equal To Men Yet Different
By Tracy Ives

Whether it be single Muslim women or men the Koran is addressed to all the Muslims and it says that the male and female 'were created of the single soul '.The women's right as per the Islam religion are the right to obtain education, to work and earn, to own independent property, equality of rewards for equal work, to express the opinion and to be heard, to refuse marriage that does not please her and so on and so forth.

Women's dress as per the Islamic culture is based on the principle of female modesty, purity and chastity. Some of them wear a modest dress which includes loose clothing and a scarf over the head and under the chin, and some wear a burkah which is a complete covering from head, face down to the toes.

Muslim women have played a vital role in the Muslim community. Early Muslim women served the community through scholarships, teaching, nursing and other important activities. In Islam there is absolutely no difference between the men and the women as far as the relationship to Allah is concerned, as both are rewarded in the same way for good conduct and punished in the same way for bad conduct.

Single Muslim women have certain restrictions in the society. They cannot expose their beauty; they should not go to public baths and swimming pools during the common hours where men also come. They must lower their eyes and not see men with bad intentions. They should be careful in the dance halls and gymnasiums and they should be allowed to go to the mosque if they desire so.

The only Muslim country which forces the women to wear hijab is Iran. In other countries, the women are given a choice about the hijab depending upon the degree of faith they have in the reading of the religious texts. The hijab should be worn only when she goes out of her family home. A Muslim female is required to dress in a particular way when she goes in the public. A Kashmiri Muslim woman wears a loose pheran up to knee length. They also wear bunches of ear rings, the weight of it will be supported by a thick silver chain. On the whole, the women's modest dress protects the society from adultery and other illegal sexual relations that lead to the break up of families and corruption of the society.

Muslim men and women must lower their gazes. They should not mix with each other. There is no dating, dancing, or mixed social gatherings in Islam. To help the men and women to find their best life partner without dating in person, there are many dating agencies and online agencies which help them to come across prospective partners sitting at home.

The modern Muslims have become broadminded and there is a lot of understanding and little more freedom is given to the younger generation but at the same time the knowledge of Koran and the religious faith is kept under consideration.

One of the first and most important steps in finding menopause relief is to recognize what is triggering your night sweats and hot flashes. These are the most complained about menopause symptoms and can almost always be helped.

Once you learn that the night sweats are an indication of your hormones being out of balance, you discover that you can take action to bring them back into balance, and thus help reduce the night sweats. This approach is much better than just taking some kind of medication to relieve the annoyance temporarily.

Stress is one of the main triggers

If you observe your hot flashes and night sweats for a few weeks, you will recognize a pattern of sorts. For example: if you are worried about finances, or are having trouble with a teenager or partner, very often the hot flashes are more frequent.

Fatigue also places stress on the hormonal system because the adrenal glands become exhausted from trying to keep pumping out adrenaline to keep you alert and on your toes. Eventually, they just slow down and the hormonal production is affected. This, in turn, makes you ripe for more hot flashes.

Excessive caffeine has a similar effect on the adrenals. The stimulating dose of caffeine perks you up, and then wears off, making your hormones like a yo-yo. Up and down, up and down, until you are exhausted, which sets you up for more symptoms of menopause.

Keep a journal

Writing down the circumstances and conditions of your hot flashes will ensure that you notice some kind of pattern. When you see it on paper it is much easier to recognize some similarities in their occurrence and the surroundings.

Like most things, if you don't write it down, chances are you will forget or fail to see the patterns. It could even lead you to see related things as well that you were previously unaware of. One woman I know thought there was no connection at all between her stress levels and hot flashes, until she began recording them. It became clear that whenever she was around people she considered to be important she had hot flashes. She also realized who she was regarding as important!

What if you have tried everything already?

Some women are healthy, they monitor their stress levels, they eat well, take vitamins, but still they have these annoying hot flashes and night sweats. What more can you do?

Begin at the beginning. Keeping a journal will not require much time or effort, but can very likely help you find some lasting menopause relief. Start working consciously on the triggers that bring on the hot flash. If it is spicy food, cut out the spicy food. If it is being around important people, work on managing your stress through deep breathing and your attitude.

Find the connections, and there will certainly be some, and make a plan of action. Educate yourself by reading quality materials. Eat the foods you know make a difference, get the rest you know you need, de-stress your life, if possible. Maybe the supplements you take could be improved on. Recent studies have shown real promise in flax seed, for instance. Just don't give up and suffer needlessly!

Festa Della Donna
By Beverly Blankenship

As legend has it, Festa della Donna was a Spring Celebration in ancient Times. It celebrated the independence of women from unjust labor and oppression. From the ancient times until now, how could women of that day ever have imagined having an "Internet Based Business" as many of us do!

Authorities don't agree how or why, but the custom started in Italy-some say in Rome.

From these ancient celebrations, International Women's Day has evolved and taken different forms and meanings over the years. It has always been strongly associated with women's struggles, both tragic and victorious, and women's rights.

Where would we be today if these women of the past had not pursued the course! We can earn better wages by having a job or even having a home based business.

An event that was both tragic and victorious, the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire of 1911 in New York City, NY. in which mostly Italian and Jewish women workers perished in a burning building whose exits were locked to prevent labor organizing is often commemorated in Italy. This tragedy led to progressive new labor laws as well as establishing a spring celebration for women.

In Italy, one of March's first flowers, the sunny mimosa, symbolizes the promise of spring after the darkness of winter. On March 8, Festa della Donna is celebrated with women giving women a bouquet of mimosa. This event celebrated around the world has become an opportunity to raise money for charitable organizations. Festa della Donna is sponsored by women for women.

This year, our women's ministry, had the opportunity to serve at the Festa della Donna in the central California area. I was just over whelmed at the beauty of the tables that were decorated by women leaders for their sisters in the community. These tables were decorated in different themes where lunch was served. The settings ranged from spring gardens to fairy land, just breath taking. It was a day of giving and serving, woman to woman. The monetary benefits were given to the Salvation Army and a Local charity.

Being able to serve with time and money is one of my passions and the reason I am building a home based Internet business.

What I suggest you do to make money as a stay at home mom is to become an affiliate marketer. In this example, you sell other peoples products and earn money based on your amount of sales. Why Most People Can't Quit Smoking
By Peter Howells Platinum Quality Author

There is probably one reason over all others why most people can't quit smoking. It is simple, straight-forward and blindingly obvious, yet most smokers don't even realize that they are putting this massive obstacle in their way. If you tried to do anything else starting out with this mindset, you would realize that you would fail before you start too, but with smokers, they just cannot see the wood for the trees.

So what is it that makes it so difficult for most smokers to quit? Why is it that most people can't quit smoking? The short answer is mindset.

When most people try to quit smoking, they start out with the opinion that what they are about to do is going to be; difficult, overwhelming, a loss and a struggle, likely to fail and most importantly, never fully achieved because they won't ever know if they have really overcome cigarettes.

Well because smokers start out by thinking quitting smoking is going to be difficult, overwhelming and likely to fail and all the rest of that negative jazz, guess what? It is! And that is why most people can't quit smoking.

The trouble for smokers is that you have been taught that quitting smoking is going to be difficult, near impossible and the cravings are almost insurmountable. The thing is, everyone (and I mean everyone) who has been telling you that is lying! It isn't difficult if you set out on your project with the right frame of mind.

Let me put that into perspective for you. As I am writing this article, I am taking a break from putting some decking into my back yard. I have never installed decking and I haven't read any books about it but I do have an extremely talented brother who is able to do just about anything he puts his mind to when it comes to stuff like decking, plastering, bricklaying, engineering - you name it!

The next bit is where I come in. This is important because you have to analyse yourself a little!

I know I will make several mistakes if I try to install the decking myself and that will lead to extra costs. So, I have asked my brother to help me with what to get and how to do it. Nothing too detailed nor anything too difficult - for either him to explain or me to understand!

I know the decking is not finished yet but that is the point of what I am explaining. It is two-fold:

Firstly, I recognise that I need advice so I have got some from someone who knows better than me; my brother.

Secondly, I have no doubt that the decking will be successfully installed and regularly enjoy imagining the decking in situ, as it will be in a few days time, and this gives me the confidence to do the work without fear of failure.

(Note that I had to do the recognizing that I need to be advised and that I must obtain the advice - it won't knock on my door! Also note that I enjoy imagining the future - I don't dread the future with decking in my back yard!)

When it comes to quitting smoking 'cold turkey' the real thing that marks out the people who succeed from the people who fail is that the success stories are people who genuinely decided to cut cigarettes out of their lives.

These people 'decide' to quit smoking rather than deciding to 'try' to quit smoking. That is what makes them a success and this is one of the main reasons why most people can't quit smoking - because they don't decide to quit, they decide to have another go, expecting failure and secretly hoping for it!

People who successfully quit cold turkey decide to quit and they focus on the future when they are quit with a sense of enjoyment, not fear or foreboding. You should do the same when you decide to quit smoking, otherwise, you will probably fail again!

Finally, if you want to improve your chances of quitting smoking, why not get some help? You don't need patches or gum or chantix or zyban or hypnosis or laser therapy or acupuncture or magnets or lord knows what else, you just need to have the right frame of mind.

Wouldn't it be easier to quit smoking if you just didn't want to smoke? With the EasyQuit System, you don't need willpower or effort to quit. Available only online at http://easyquitsystem.net with a full 8 week money back guarantee.

if you're finding that your skin is starting to show some tell-tale signs of aging such as fine lines or creases around the eyes, a quick review of the best anti aging skin care products available is in order. After all, it's important to always put your best foot, or, in this case, face, forward, these days.

Whether at work or when socializing with others, things like wrinkles, age spots and acne can be very embarrassing for you. While there are many options available, microdermabrasion is one of the most useful, not to mention popular, treatments for you to try.

So what exactly is microdermabrasion? Well, it's sometimes called, simply, Microderm. It's a cosmetic process designed to remove part or all of the outer layer of dead skin, usually from the face. That layer is known as the stratum corneum. What does that mean to you? Well, if you have wrinkles, scars or other skin conditions, it can mean a lot.

Microdermabrasion helps mostly with removing wrinkles, crow's feet and age spots. It can remove scars that you may have too, but only if they're raised above the skin. If you have a sunken scar, it probably won't remove it completely.

There are several different types of microdermabrasion options available to help skin look younger. One of the most common is crystal microdermabrasion which uses small crystals that can exfoliate your skin by essentially sand blasting it.

Crystal is the traditional form, but other options, such as diamond, are quickly gaining popularity. Diamond microdermabrasion uses a single head with a diamond tip to exfoliate your skin and is safer for use around the eyes where the treatment is often needed.

Then there's home microdermabrasion that you can perform yourself without going to a clinic or salon. As anti aging skin care techniques go, it's one of the most convenient options you can choose. Best of all, it's not that expensive compared with the alternatives. However, it's also not as effective, immediately, as professional treatments. So, a lot depends on which treatment products you choose and how much of a rush you're in. Over time, home systems can get you some good quality results at a more affordable price.

If you have allergies to any drugs, microdermabrasion can be a good choice for you too because it doesn't involve medications. Further, it doesn't usually require that you take anesthesia and is free of negative side-effects. It's relatively pain-free although you may experience a little tingling sensation and some light swelling for a bit.

Another advantage of this procedure is that it doesn't have to stand alone. In fact, it can actually make other anti aging skin care treatments work even better. For instance, by removing your outer layer of dead skin, lotions and creams can absorb into your skin faster and more effectively. Keeping your skin healthy and hydrated is critical to make sure that wrinkles and other signs of aging don't return later on.

How To Grow And Care For Your Hair
By Emma Kelly

Long hair makes a woman feel feminine and glamorous. Most men love long hair. Many women have long unkempt hair because they think their man will be furious if they have it cut off!

Long, shiny, healthy hair is the ultimate accessory. However, for many of us, expensive salons are out of our reach. So how do we grow our hair long?

Hair grows from the follicles in your scalp and grows in a random pattern. There will be live hair growing and also hair lying dormant which will eventually fall out. Hair grows approximately half an inch per month.

Hair that doesn't seem to grow very long can unfortunately be down to the type of hair you have, for example curly, rather than it being poorly treated. However, a lot of people do mistreat their hair and there are lots of things you can do and treatments you can use to ensure your hair grows healthy.

All growing hair splits because when the hair becomes dry, it starts to unravel like a rope. The only thing you can do to get rid of split ends is to cut them off to prevent further damage to the hair. Many people are afraid to have this done in case their hair is cut too short. Removing split ends yourself is pretty simple to do. Hold the hair about half an inch in diameter thickness and twist between your fingers until you see the damaged ends. Snip off the split hair and other damaged hair with the tip of the scissors. If you move around your hair in this way you will remove the split ends but not cut any length off your hair.

Other treatments you can use are heat conditioning treatments. When blow drying or using hot hair straighteners or tongs and rollers always use a heat protector spray.

7 Tips On Making Your Breasts Look Bigger
By Pola Kay

Article Word Count: 250

Full breasts are commonly associated with femininity and sexiness, so it is easy to see why many girls feel unconfident, if nature didn't bless them in that department. Many women wish they had bigger breasts, but are not willing to go under the knife to achieve that. But not every woman knows that it is easy to make small breasts look bigger and more attractive, by wearing particular types of fabric and design. You can follow these simple tips to enhance your bust line and make it visually fuller.

  1. Padded bra is your best bet to make your breasts appear larger. The same goes for push-up bras that lift your breasts up and bring them close together, to create cleavage. You can also try buying separate inserts to use with other bras.
  2. Thin horizontal stripes will make your chest look wider.
  3. Bright colors and ornaments will attract more attention to your breast area and make your bust look bigger. The same is true with ruffles and glitter.
  4. Use accessories and small details to visually enhance the cleavage area. A thin chain with a small pendant and delicate design will make your breasts look bigger by contrast.
  5. Wear tight and thick materials that will add some volume to your bust.
  6. Make sure you have your back straight. This pushes your breasts out and gives them better shape.
  7. Use make up to visually enhance your cleavage. With a couple of brush strokes it can become deeper looking, making your breasts seems fuller.

The Best Bikini Hair Removal Options
By David Gross

Article Word Count: 588

Having a bikini hair removal procedure can be both painful and embarrassing; so many women opt for home removal methods. The difficulty of successfully removing at home, however, is that it is both difficult to reach, and that you may not be able to force yourself to do the sudden pulling on your hair that the treatments require. Professional beauticians offer both hot and clod wax erasing, and are skilled in keeping the pain to a minimum. Finally, doctors and skin care professionals offer expensive but long lasting laser treatment.

Bikini Hair Removal Can Be Quick And Neat

It's not only embarrassing to have removal performed; it can be extremely uncomfortable simply because of the extra sensitivity of the skin around the bikini line. Having removal done will almost certainly mean experiencing some pain, but there are a variety of methods of hair removal among which you can choose. So look for the ones which promise to be as painless as possible, but factor in other things like cost and the convenience of the treatments.

While there are kits available to let you attempt removal on your own, and they may save you a nice amount of money, reaching all the hair in your breast area may be difficult and leave you with less than satisfactory results. If you tackle removal on your own, you will have to steel yourself to make the sudden pulling motions necessary to remove the hair, and your body may simply freeze.

Spa Bikini Hair Removal

The difficulty of DIY removal is what sends most women who want the procedure to a spa or beauty clinic, where it can be performed by a trained professional. The technicians at these facilities know all the techniques for making removal as comfortable as it can be, and they will also offer you your choice from a number of removal procedures.

In a best case scenario, your removal will be over quickly and comfortably, but the fact is that most of the time there will be some pain involved. You may be given a choice of either hot or cold wax treatments for our removal, and if you dare, you can even buy a wax removal kit to use at home. They are inexpensive, and some of them have wax especially formulated to be used with a microwave, which will significantly shorten your treatment time.

Laser Bikini Hair Removal

Many clinics offer laser removal, but it is very expensive because of the technologically advanced equipment used. This equipment must be operated by a laser removal specialist trained in the proper techniques, so that will be added to the cost of the treatment.

There are some medical professionals who also offer removal, done in their offices, and you may prefer having a doctor present in case there are complications. Laser removal is both less painful and much longer lasting than waxing, so if you think you would like to investigate this option further, find out what the standards the medical authorities in your state have for removal machine operators.

If you are on the laser bikini hair removal treatment, you should set up a consultation with the doctor or beautician who will be performing it. Laser treatment works best on people who have both dark hair and light complexions, so you need to get a professional assessment of what sort of results you can expect. You should also indicate whether or not your skin is especially sensitive, because that too could make you a poor candidate for laser bikini hair removal.

Uncovering The Secret To Self-Esteem
By Kevin Sinclair Platinum Quality Author

Article Word Count: 717

Professionals have been studying self-esteem all throughout history. It has been established that this is simply a state of mind. When an individual has high self-esteem, it can produce many positive feelings. Examples of these feelings include happiness, confidence, and even simple cheerfulness. However, if an individual suffers from low self-esteem, the impact that it places on the mind is extremely negative. Feelings of worthlessness, unhappiness, and disappointment are often common in the individual that experiences low self-esteem. Here, we will uncover the secret to self-esteem.

Experiencing low self-esteem is a very demeaning situation to the life of the person that experiences it. This negative state of mind can result in many complications throughout different components of life for the person that experiences it. This basically stems from the fact that when an individual lacks self-esteem, they also lack confidence. Confidence is the basis of success in every single area in life. Without confidence, it is difficult for any person to succeed in any endeavor. Without some degree of confidence in life, it is impossible to achieve any degree of success. This is the first secret of self-esteem. In order to succeed, confidence must be maintained. In order to maintain confidence, the ability to see yourself as confident in something - anything - is necessary!

Now, it must be understood that there is a major difference between self-confidence and conceit. It has been established that conceit is actually a form of low self-esteem. Individuals who are conceited, or believe that they are in the best in their job, relationship, etc, are often ones who are actually really insecure about themselves. However, the mind blocks the possibility that there may be an underlying issue to contend with, and this block is displayed as a high level of conceit. However, self-confidence is simply believing in the capabilities that one has, and understanding that life is nothing more than a game of constant improvement. If you understand this very important fact, you have uncovered the second secret to success when it comes to self-esteem.

Self-esteem is a way of life. It should apply to every single aspect of your life. This means that you see yourself as a well-rounded individual with a lot of potential that learns from mistakes made in the past and does not dwell on feelings of guilt, shame, and similar situations when it comes to those mistakes. You see yourself as an individual who is constantly learning from the people, events, and situations around you. You have a positive outlook on life that puts you in the position to have an open mind. This allows you to be receptive to all the many situations that you are posed with, and allows you to have confidence in your abilities - regardless of the challenges that you are faced with. By having this state of mind, you soon realize that the human potential is limitless. You soon realize that your potential is limitless - this is the next secret to self-esteem.

We have all heard the sayings "light at the end of the tunnel", and "every cloud has a silver lining". These very important little sayings were instilled in us as children, and for a very good reason. We should all focus on the fact that for every action there is a reaction and for every negative situation, there is a positive outcome. If you have the confidence that is necessary to believe these very important facts, you will find that it is easy to face the weaknesses that you have as a person, and it is also easier to accept the fact that mistakes will be made. If you are able to see things in this manner, you will quickly find that confidence in yourself is drastically increased. You will have the self-esteem that you need and deserve to have. This is the next secret to self-esteem.

Here, you have learned the secrets to self-esteem. If you are looking for ways to improve the confidence that you have in yourself, the basic principles mentioned here will allow you to do just that. Self-confidence is the basis of all the self-esteem that you have. This means, the more confidence that you have, the more likely you are to succeed when it comes to increasing your level of self-esteem.

5 Professional Tips On How To Apply Make Up
By Marta Orlowska Platinum Quality Author

Article Word Count: 374

Painted pouts are making a comeback with new textures and finishes giving the face a modern look. If applied well, lipstick will not only look sexier, buy will last far longer than lip gloss!

Perfect-Pout Prep - If you're going to wear a strong color, your skin tone needs to look as even as possible - especially around your mouth - so apply a sheer base on your face and neck. Make sure your lips aren't dry or scaly by drinking plenty of water and using a good lip balm.

Expert Application - First, find a lipstick that has enough pigment to stay the course but also has a built-in sheen so it doesn't look heavy. Using your ring finger, dab a color onto your lips around the Cupid's bow - this gives more dimension and a fuller look. For a soft finish, use a wide, flat brush to skirt around the lip line; if your natural lip line isn't even, use a sheer lip liner to tidy up the edges. Remember, always use a liner that's exactly the same color as your lipstick - never darker. Fix up any smudges with a concealer brush.

For Fuller Lips - If lips are thin, use a highlighter pencil or pale concealer to extend the line, then apply lipstick as above, extending to the new line with a wide, flat brush. If your pout is already pronounced, apply lipstick evenly, without concentrating the color in the center.

Suit Your Skin Tone - A bright pink is a great shade for spring - but the darker your skin tone, the richer the pigment can be. If you're Asian, go for a more russet or brown shade of pink; black skin can get away with a touch of burgundy or brown.

Understanding the Value of Diamonds
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Art_Morse]Art Morse

It's been said that diamonds are a girl's best friend, but they are also an investment that will last a lifetime. Whether set as diamond rings, necklaces, or as a broach, these beautiful gems add beauty and elegance to a piece of jewelry.

Before investing in a diamond, you need to understand a little bit about what to look for in a diamond, and how each of those things affect the price. These factors are referred to as the " 4 C's" of diamonds. They are: carat, color, clarity, and cut.

Carat

A diamonds carat is a measure of the size of a diamond, and it is one of the largest factors that affect the cost. A carat is a measure of the weight of a gem, so depending on the shape of the stone, the diamond with a larger carat may not necessarily look larger.

Another thing to consider is that as the carat of a stone increases, the cost per carat increases as well, so a 2-carat diamond will be more than double the cost of a 1-carat diamond.

Color

The next item that impact the cost of a diamond is color. Diamonds come in a variety of colors. They are graded as "colorless" and "fancy." Diamonds typically have traces of yellow or brown coloring. They are graded according to the extent of color. If there is only a small trace of color, they are classified as colorless. The closer to absolute colorless, the more expensive they are. When they reach a more full color, they are classified as fancy. The more common fancy colors are pink and yellow.

Yellow diamonds are typically more expensive than colorless diamonds. The higher up on the color scale the stone falls, the more expensive the investment is. Untreated yellow diamonds are very rare, and purchasing these tones can be very expensive.

Clarity

A diamonds clarity refers to how clear and free from internal defects the gem is. The more clear it is, the greater the price. Imperfections in a stone can range from small black specks to internal cracks. The diamond is graded on a scale of flawless, which is very rarely given, to imperfect. In all, there are over 10 different grades for the clarity of a diamond.

Cut

The final thing that affects the price of a diamond is the cut. This is the only area of a diamonds quality that humans have any control over. An expert diamond cutter will look at each individual stone and determine how to cut it so that its beauty comes out. Depending on the shape and facets of the cut, two diamonds of equal size and clarity may have completely different looks.

Because this is an area that the buyer has some control over, some buyers prefer to purchase a diamond rough, then have it cut the way that they desire. This is a way to reduce the cost of the purchase, and buying a diamond rough will also make it possible to get multiple smaller stones out of on rough gem.

When purchasing a diamond, make sure that you are dealing with a reputable dealer. There are many things that go into the grade and cost of the stone, and a knowledgeable person can help you make the best deal.

Fusion Hair Extensions
By Elizabeth Hoepp

Article Word Count: 257

Hot fusion is the method of hair extensions that uses a heat clamp to attach extension hair with keratin glue on the end to your natural hair. This method lasts up to four months, and may last even longer. It is recommended to use Remy virgin Indian hair which is the best possible and what I personally use for my clients, but often salons and beauty supply stores will sell hair that claims it is real hair, but is actually hair off the floor at barber shops, and throwaway hair that is dipped in a chemical bath, then coated with silicone to feel soft. However, the silicone coating sheds away after about 2 shampoos. Then, you are left with the throwaway hair attached to your head.

Many people with thinning hair think that there is no way to be saved, BUT THERE IS! Cold fusion or microlinks is a new extension method that is not offered by many. It is ideal for women with very thin or fine hair because the bonds are about as small as a grain of rice, and they barely weigh down your hair at all. This method also uses no heat, and lasts just as long as hot fusion. The only downside to this method is the higher price. The fusion method is 100x better than tracks because there is less glue, you can wash your hair as normal, and it is comfortable to wear.

I offer both of these wonderful fusion methods for hair extensions. You may contact me with more questions!

Aromatherapy - What Should You Believe?
By Duncan Bain

Article Word Count: 904

Aromatherapy is both an art and a science, widely used by many, but never since the advent of modern medicines in the 20th century has it, or other holistic therapies, been accepted by many in the medical profession. The reason given being the lack of proof that it works. The lack of funds available to carry out clinical trials on the scale required will of course ensure proof will not be forthcoming. But does such skepticism really matter?

More and more aromatherapists are qualifying each year and they are treating a growing number of their clients for ailments ranging from skin complaints such as cellulite to eczema, sports injuries, stress etc etc. There are a growing number of colleges offering aromatherapy courses and these range from an introduction as part of a beauty course to a full 3 year degree covering detailed studies of 100 hundred or so essential oils, their chemical and biological make up and reactions with the human body.

A survey in The Times revealed that 75% of people would like to see aromatherapy available on the NHS. The big question for the policy makers is how to integrate aromatherapy and conventional healthcare.

However the growth is happening at grass roots level in some hospitals where more and more nurses and midwives are becoming aromatherapists, using their own initiative. Also, many hospitals and other areas of care are encouraging aromatherapy treatments and a significant number are using essential oils in controlled research projects. Undoubtedly confidence is growing.

What examples are there of Aromatherapy in the NHS?

For example, over 70% of cancer centres offer aromatherapy in palliative care for cancer patients using appropriate massage techniques. Hammersmith, Royal Marsden and Charing Cross are amongst them.

The Neil Cliffe Cancer Centre has a comprehensive aromatherapy support service in place using essential oils and offers aromatherapy education for home use to its patients.

The adult leukemia unit at the Christie Hoispital, Manchester has two aromatherapists offering support to patients, predominantly to improve the quality of life in a highly stressful environment. There are increasing examples of an aromatherapist being employed by hospice trusts. At Oakhaven Hospice in Lymington, essential oils are used to promote improved quality of life and to provide help with such conditions as nausea, anxiety, depression, aching and stiff joints, as well as pain.

For a number of years now aromatherapy massage has been a key treatment strategy at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield, in areas such as the management of chronic pain in sufferers of multiple sclerosis. Sufferers obtain symptomatic relief of pain and other benefits include improved sleep, relaxation, improved joint mobility and a sense of wellbeing.

Aromatherapy has been practiced in the midwifery and obstetrics sector for a number of years, The John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford has operated an aromatherapy service since 1990 and a survey of 8,000 patients over 8 years concluded that over 50% of women who used aromatherapy treatments during labor found it effective in the reduction of fear and anxiety.

Aromatherapy plays a role in many other environments. Working with the deaf and deaf-blind; with autism; attention deficit hyperactive disorder; and with addictions and allergies, and also with care of the elderly and mental health sufferers.

How long have we known about the powers of Essential Oils?

The evidence is all around us, aromatherapy is working and there are thousands of individual case studies to prove it, with thousands of years of history behind it. The ancient Egyptians were using essential oils for both medicinal and cosmetic purposes hundreds of years before the birth of Christ., The ancient Greeks were fond of aromatic baths and they discovered the spiritual power of flowers and their ability to help sleep, relax, refresh and revitalize, The Romans and Chinese have used plant extracts to treat all sorts of ailments. More recently, in the 19th century, French soldiers injured in battle, were treated in their hospitals with essential oils. It is also well documented that during the time of diseases such as yellow fever the workers in the perfume area of Grasse, in southern France who harvested flowers such as Lavender remained immune to the diseases.

But it was not until the 1930"s that the term "Aromatherapy" was first used by the Frenchman Gattefosse. He accidentally discovered the healing power of Lavender. Having burnt his hand he plunged it into a nearby container, thinking it was water. It wasn't, it was Lavender and the burn healed quickly and without scarring. Since then many have promoted the use of Aromatherapy, but it is in the home, with use by trained therapists or anyone learning more about the essential oils and trying to experiment, that will see increased usage.

Perhaps some of the proprietary supermarket brands have gone over the top and do not do justice to the term aromatherapy in naming the shampoos and bubble baths as "aromatherapy" products, but there is nothing in law to stop them. Furthermore, I am not a great advocate of pure essential oils being freely available to anyone in a supermarket as they are potentially dangerous products if abused or even used incorrectly.

How can I find out more about aromatherapy?

Lastly, for those of you wishing to learn more about aromatherapy and perhaps even get a qualification at varying levels there are colleges throughout the country running courses under the umbrella of bodies such as ITEC, VTCT, NVQ, BTEC etc as well as a number of correspondence courses.

Duncan Bain is a Director of Natural Touch Aromatherapy and has been involved with essential oils for many years. He has visited many of the countries where essential oil are produced and is committed to buying direct from source, ensuring monies benefit local economies whilst at the same time ensuring quality of product.
